Coach Kim Sang Sik calls up the second overseas Vietnamese player to the Vietnam national team.

Following Filip Nguyen, Van Lam will be the second overseas Vietnamese player named in the preliminary list for the Vietnam national team this March.

Ninh Binh Club has just confirmed that five players are included in the preliminary training list for the Vietnam national team. The summoned players include goalkeeper Dang Van Lam, defender Truong Tien Anh, center-back Le Ngoc Bao, along with midfielders Nguyen Hoang Duc and Nguyen Duc Chien. These are all key pillars of the ancient capital's team in the current season.

According to the plan, from March 22 to March 31, 2026, this group of players will join the Vietnam national team for the first training camp of the year. This gathering aims to prepare for the sixth match of the final Asian Cup 2027 qualifying round, while also focusing on the upcoming matches against Bangladesh (a friendly) and Malaysia in the Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers.

Among these five players, Van Lam and Ngoc Bao will be two names that need to strive hard to secure a chance to remain in the official list and playing positions. Van Lam will face fierce competition with two equally outstanding teammates, Trung Kien and Filip Nguyen, for the opportunity to be the starting goalkeeper.

The full list has not been announced yet, but the goalkeeper position could potentially include up to three overseas Vietnamese players. Besides Filip Nguyen and Van Lam, Patrik Le Giang has officially obtained Vietnamese citizenship and could also be summoned by Coach Kim Sang Sik to the national team.

Up to now, a total of 15 players have been revealed by clubs to be part of the national team's training list. Besides the five players from Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh Club also confirmed two summoned players: forward Nguyen Xuan Son and defender Nguyen Van Vi.

Previously, Hanoi Police Club announced eight players joining the national team, including Filip Nguyen, Le Pham Thanh Long, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Quang Anh, Jason Pendant Quang Vinh, Le Van Do, along with the notable returns of Tran Dinh Trong and Doan Van Hau. In the coming days, other clubs are likely to continue announcing more players called up to the national team.
