Despite great efforts, facing the formidable opponent Japan, the Vietnam women's team suffered a 0-4 defeat and stopped after the group stage of the 2026 Women's Asian Cup Finals.
Right after the opening whistle, Japan pressed forward aggressively, forcing Vietnam into a defensive stance. Although pressured and facing numerous opportunities, Khong Thi Hang's goal remained secure in the first half. However, Khong Thi Hang could not keep a clean sheet after a well-executed attack by the Japan women's team.
It should also be noted that the team from the Land of the Rising Sun frequently used crosses from the right flank for forwards to jump and head the ball, exploiting the height disadvantage of Vietnam's defenders. The goal conceded by Coach Mai Duc Chung's squad originated from such a situation: a cross from the right flank at minute 21, Ueki headed close to the goal, scoring for Japan.
Nevertheless, the disparity in class and skill became evident in the second half after adjustments made by the Japan women's team during halftime. The rapid combination play, quick bursts, and excellent escapes from defense by players competing in Europe from the Land of the Rising Sun left Vietnam helpless. At minute 50, Tanaka shot from inside the penalty area, raising the score to 2-0. Ten minutes later, Aoba delivered a beautiful curling shot from outside the box to widen the gap for Japan. At minute 67, Seike broke away and shot diagonally into the corner, making the score 4-0.
The Vietnam women's team attempted to attack afterward when Coach Mai Duc Chung substituted several veteran players, but the situation remained unchanged. With a final 0-4 loss, the Vietnam women's team stopped after the group stage of the 2026 Women's Asian Cup Finals.
