Real Madrid suffers a double setback ahead of the rematch against Manchester City

Real Madrid might face upcoming games missing two crucial pillars, with injuries persistently impacting the squad's lineup.

According to journalist Abraham Romero from El Mundo, forward Kylian Mbappe will not be able to participate in Real Madrid's next La Liga match against Elche CF. More notably, his availability for the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg against Manchester City is also under question.

Mbappe is still undergoing recovery

The French star has been absent in recent matches while continuing treatment for a knee issue. During the early stages of recovery, Mbappe flew to Paris to seek additional medical consultation. While there, he also spent several days working with members of Real Madrid's fitness staff.

Currently, the forward has returned to Madrid and is training individually at the club's Valdebebas training complex. Given his current condition, Real Madrid's medical team wants to manage the recovery process cautiously, rather than rushing him back onto the pitch.

Therefore, Mbappe will definitely be absent for the match against Elche. Additionally, whether he can make it for the match against Manchester City at Etihad Stadium will depend on recovery progress over the next few days.

Carreras also sidelined

Not only Mbappe, Real Madrid also faces another injury case as summer newcomer Alvaro Carreras is expected to miss the same matches. The 22-year-old left defender suffered a muscle injury in his right calf following a heavy collision in Real Madrid's recent loss to Getafe CF.

Medical examinations later confirmed the injury, forcing the player to begin a separate recovery program. Carreras was previously unable to play in the Champions League first leg against Manchester City, and currently may not recover in time for the second leg in England.
